

Are motorized vehicles allowed on the Rail Trail?
- NO, the Rail Trail is a multi-use trail that is used by pedestrians, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and equestrians.
Where is parking available?
- Parking is available at a number of locations along the Trail. Please see our Trail Map section for locations.
What is the surface like on the Rail Trail?
- The Rail Trail is an unpaved ballast surface in most locations. It is asphalt paved through some of the more populated areas. See the Trail Map for more detail.
How can I support the Rail Trail?
- NORTA is a volunteer organization dedicated to promoting, maintaining and protecting the Rail Trail. You can become a member to demonstrate your support and you may participate in volunteer trail maintenance days.
Is the Rail Trail open all the time?
- It is open 365 days a year, but closed from dusk till dawn daily. Some areas of the Trail may be closed temporarily due to maintenance issues, agricultural spraying, or during fire-arms hunting season.
Are horses allowed on the Trail?
- Yes, horses are allowed in most areas, although, some municipalities may restrict their passage. All users of the trail including pedestrians must yield to horses.
Are pets allowed on the Rail Trail?
- Yes, however, pets must be kept on a leash and under control at all times.
Is there a fee to use the Rail Trail?
- No, there are no fees charged to enjoy the Wabash Cannonball Trail.

All trail users should be respectful of others, regardless of their mode or speed. All users yield to horses. Cyclists yield to pedestrians and horses.

Leaving trail boundaries constitutes illegal trespassing subject to prosecution. 
KEEP IT NATURAL
Litter and trash along the trail spoil it for everyone, so do not throw trash along the way. Even better, pick up any litter that you may find, and carry it out.
CURFEW
Trail is closed from dusk to dawn. Emergencies and suspicious activities should be reported to the local sheriff immediately.
